CLOSING DAY OF THE CASTLECLIFF GOLF CLUB’S SEASON

Good weather conditions favoured the closing day of the winter season of the Castlecliff Golf Club on Saturday. The course was in good condition and a full muster of club members and a number of visitors enjoyed the day’s golf, which was remarkable for the first class scoring which took place. The mixed Canadian foursomes was won by Mrs. H. L. Hogg and E. M. Granville with a net 63, one of the lowest scores recorded in this event for many years. The Intermediate foursomes championship for tht Bristol cup was won by H. W. Hawke and A. Climo with a most creditable 66. The men’s senior stableford went to H. Brodie, 36 points, and the junior to W. R. Bennett, 45 points, another remarkable score. The putting comI petition was won by A. Mitchell on the count back from H. Hopper. A special event, the Lamb handicap, was won by Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Barber. i he president, Mr. P. J. Smith, welcomed the players and congratulated the trophy winners on the fine golf displayed. Mr. Smith referred to the work of the caterer, Mr. J. Brotherstorf, the caretaker, Mr. J. Wilson, Ladies’ Committee, club officials, and the secretary, Mr. Ivan Brown, all of whom had done outstanding work for which the club was deeply appreciative. Mr. Smith also referred to the fast growing membership and announced that the summer programme would commence immediately, with a stroke match next week-end. Messrs. Newton and Colin Bristol, were accorded musical honours for their presentation to the club of three cups for foursomes championship match play. Colin Bristol was also congratulated by members on his official reduction to a scratch handicap. Mrs. Smith presented cups and trophies to the following; senior championship, A. R. Kitto; intermediate championship, L. T. Thomas, junior championship, T. Gifford-Moore; Millward Cup, J. F. Rowe; Hopeful cup, J. F. Rowe; Rowe cup, J- A. Whetton; Lincoln-Bennett cup, L. J. Fredrickson; Wagstaff Memorial Cup, Mrs. H. L. Hogg and C. H. Taylor; rose bowl, K. Shaw; rose cup, J. F. Rowe; Power cup, C. Dashfield; Grieve cup eclectic, Leo Whetton; Summer cup, I. R.
