Non-Totalisator Maiden Event At Levin

The first race at Levin on Saturday was a non-totalisator event for maiden two-year-olds which had not been placed, with the colts and geldings carrying 8.2 and the fillies 7.11. There were only three fillies carded for the race, and they swamped the opposition and took all the stake-money except the £lO allotted to fourth place. Fortune, a chestnut filly by Paper Boy from Thodorus, ran to the front at barrier-rise and was never headed, winning by a good margin. Gay Nina was always second after the first two furlongs, and Ingella, slow away, I came home particularly well. Brito[vite, Flying Cash and Waipunga were next to finish. Fortune is raced by Mr J. C. Crawford, for whom she is trained at Trentham by P. Spratt. Gay Nina is a chestnut filly by Neptune from Hui, and she is trained lor Mr A. J. W. McKenzie by W. J. Bromby at Trentham. Ingella is raced by her breeder, Mr G. M. Currie, Koatanui Stud, and is trained by G. W. New at Awapuni. She is a bay filly by Timanova from Deference, by Posterity from Homage, by Absurd from Eulogy.
