N.Z. Artist Appointed Curator Of Perth Gallery
PERTH, Nov. 5 (Recd. 6pm).—Mr James Cook, a prominent artist of New Zealand and New South Wales, has been appointed curator of the Perth Art Gallery. Mr Cook, who won the Perth Gallery’s competition last year, is at present on a painting tour of his homeland, New Zealand. He was an official war artist, and served with the Australian Forces in New Guinea. He began training at Canterbury University College School of Art. In 1925 he won the first travelling art scholarship awarded in New Zealand and spent the next four years overseas. Four years later he was back in Europe, painting in England, France and Spain. On the outbreak of war he joined the British Ministry of Information.
