Westbourne Garden Circle A very happy afternoon was spent by members of the Westbourne Garden Circle this week at the home of Mrs. G. Mclntyre, Wanganui East, the convener, Mrs S. Copp, presiding. Each member was given a gladioli bulb for a competition to be held later. A beautiful Koala bear, made by Mrs. Vinten, was won by Mrs. J. Burns. A competition arranged by Mrs. Gillies was won by Mrs. Baker. Next meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. Chant, Victoria Avenue, competition a posy, to be sent to Jubilee Home. Mrs. Mclntyre and Mrs. Gillies judged the competitions:— A breakfast tray posy, Mrs. Woodley 1, Mrs. Chant 2, Mrs. Ogier 3. Roses, best bloom, Mrs. Chant 1, Mrs. Copp 2, Mrs. Burns 3. Members enjoyed walking and looking around Mrs Mclntyre’s beautiful garden. Kaitoke Mrs. Shanks presided over a good attendance at the November meeting of the K'aitoke Women's Institute. Further correspondence was received from Littlethorpe and Torquay links, and members were asked to bring either soap or tinned commodities for parcels to be sent to these links. Mrs. Black gave a comprehensive report on the half-yearly federation meeting held last month. A donation of 10s 6d is to be made to the Leper Fund. Mrs. Allward chose Lady Mountbatten as the famous woman for the Golden Thread. The roll call, “What I can see from my kitchen window,’’ brought forth varied descriptions of views. Mesdames Hodges and Pritchard and Miss Aiken received gifts from the birthday box. Being International Day, several overseas articles were on display. Mrs Archibald, who comes from Scotland, gave an interesting talk of farming life in Scotland and Mrs. Campbell read an account of an air trip from New Zealand to Cairo. Votes of thanks were passed to the speakers. For the Christmas meeting next month an exchange of gifts will be made amongst members. Results of the monthly competitions were:—Best bloom, Mrs, Hunt 1, Mrs. Garner, jun., 2, Mrs. Lynch 3; spring cabbage, Mrs. Garner, jun. 1, Mrs. Shanks 2, Mrs. Hunt 3; baby’s knitted article, Mrs. Garner, sen. 1, Mesdames Hodges and Hunt (equal) 2.
