BRILLIANT FILLY CHICQUITA WINS OAKS AT FLEMINGTON

MELBOURNE, Nov. 3 (Recd. 11.10 p.m.)—For V.R.C. Oaks Day at Flemington heavy rain fell during the morning and during the afternoon and greatly affected the attendance. The going was heavy. Chicquita, always an odds on favourite, was successful in the Oaks from Happy Medium and Evening Mist. This was the seventh consecutive success by Chicquita in eight starts. She proved herself the outstanding filly this season and should she train on she is likely to rank with some of the great mares of the past. She is now to be spelled and will be brought back into work for the autumn meetings.

Although the New Zealand gelding Royal Tan failed badly in the Hotham Handicap and the Melbourne Cup he was the medium of heavy support in the Veteran Stakes. From an outside price he firmed to equal favouritism with Mile End. Last early, he moved up rapidly approaching the home turn, but although he finished sixth he was never travelling like a probable winner. The winner, Royal Myth, is a four-year-old mare by Solar Bear, whose progeny have always shown to advantage in heavy going. . . , « Dickens who dead-heated tor second with King's Com in the Derby, won the weight-for-age Linlithgow Stakes in good style. He appreciated the shorter distance and cleared right away in the straight to score easily. Details are:—
