However, it is expected that many householders will be awakened early on Saturday morning with a request for “a penny for the guy.” Guy Fawkes Day parties have become more popular as a result of the shortage of pyrotechnics, the pooling of resources often enabling quite a good evening’s fun to be had. GuyFawkes night is not popular with firemen because on that night the city’s fire risk rises considerably and firemen have to be on the alert. Guy Fawkes night, too, usually results in many burns from the handling of matches nad crackers. 1
