Wanganui Senior Rugby Club Championship Won By Pirates; Waverley Leads Charity Cup
By defeating Kaierau on Spriggens Park on Saturday by 11 points to six, Pirates won the 1949 Wanganui Rugby club championship. During the season the winners were beaten once only in championship matches and were held to a draw on one occasion. The team that beat them was Kaierau. a side which has rivalled Pirates for a period getting close to half a century. Wanganui and Old Boys held them to a draw. Waverley. having played elose matches and extended all teams in the senior championship, have the lead at present in the Charity Cup (knock-out) competition. Old Boys held them to a draw on Saturday, but as both Kaierau and Marist, two teams each with a win. were defeated. Waverley has a point lead on the field. Technical Old Boys beat Marist by 11 points to six.
