Good Attendance At Meeting Of Rangitikei Labour Party Committee
A large and representative gathering of delegates and supporters representing the majority of branches and affiliations in the electorate were] present at the monthly meeting of the i Rangilikei Labour Representation Committee held at Mangaweka recently. Matters dealing with the forthcoming general election were discussed, I and nominations for candidates for the! Rangitikei seat were considered. The meeting supported the’Government’s! action in taking a referendum on the question of compulsory military train-1 ing. i A reply from the Minister of Education concerning the bus fare subsidy for first year pupils travelling to more distant post-primary schools was received. The reply stated that in general no conveyance allowance is available to first-year pupils, the only exception being a pupil who desires to! take a minimum of two foreign lan-1 guages not taught locally. Pupils coming within this category and not receiving bus fares should make application for same. Congratulations were extended to Mr. J. J .D. Capstick, who has been chosen as official Labour candidate for the Otaki electorate.
