annual plunket meeting. TURAKINA, Last Night (O.C.)— The annual general meeting of the Turakina Plunket Society was held recently in St. Andrew’s Hall, Mrs. F. GroshinSki presiding over a fair attendance. The secretary, Mrs. W, Strachan, presented the report and balance-sheet, which showed that another very successful year had been completed. The annual Paddy’s market held in November, proved a huge success, showing a profit of £4B 14s. During the year Miss Suddaby gave a series of interesting and instructive talks on mothercraft which were very well attended and enjoyed by all. Miss Cook, secretary of the Marton branch, kindly gave an interesting account if the society’s history. Officers elected for the ensuing year were: President, Mrs. F. (?roshinski; vice-presidents, Mesdames P. Cavanagh, A. Duncan, P. McCalman, J. Power, J. Fitches; secretarytreasurer, Mrs. W» Strachan; auditor, Mr. G. L. Marshall; delegates, Mesdames Groshinski and Strachan; committee, Mesdames McCalman, E. Grant, F. Johnston, G. Fitches, J. Fitches, D. G. McLachlan, D. Flyger, Hugh Glasgow, Hilary Glasgow, B. Linds, and J. Powei, A special vote of thanks was passed to Mr. G. L. Marshall, the auditor, and to the many willing workers who helped to make the Paddy’s market such a success. Members are reminded that subscriptions for 1949-50 became due on April 1. HALL COMMITTEE MEETING. The newly-elected hall committee held its first meeting on Monday evening, Mr. A. Duncan presiding. It was decided to spend £25 on repairing spouting, a few rotted weather boards and replacing broken windows. A letter was received from Mr. C. Papps requesting that the committee grant him the hire of the hall every Saturday night for the purpose of showing pictures, instead of three Saturdays a month as previously. After due consideration the request was granted. The Football Club wrote suggesting that the committee endeavour to erect a ticket box. It was pointed out that the present system was inadequate for dances, etc. The committee decided to go into the matter and ascertain what the cost would be. It was agreed to allow the Cubs and Scouts free use of the hall whenever it is too wet to parade out of doors. FOOTBALLERS DANCE. Mr. and Mrs. P. Karatau have very generously offered to sponsor a dance in aid of the Football Club funds. It is to be held on Friday next, July 8. Arrangements have been made for buses from Wanganui and Marton. Marks’ orchestra will supply the music for the programme, which includes a number of novelty and prize dances. WHANGAEHU GOLF CLUB. Members of the Tawhero Golf Club are to visit Whangaehu on Sunday next to play a return match. A medal round will be played on Saturday. RUGBY AFFAIRS. Turakina, which had a bye in the competition last Saturday, had a visit from a team representing Oroua, which they defeated 11-3. The winners’ points came from tries by J. Templeton, W. Le Quesne, and J. Karatau, J. Lane converting one try.
