RANGITIKEI RUGBY BOUNDARY ISSUE NOT YET SETTLED

The Rangitikei Rugby sub-union has asked the Wanganui Rugby Union for a dispensation for players concerned in the present boundary issue. This was revealed at last night’s meeting of the management committee of the Wanganui Union. As 13 members of the Ohingaiti Club live across the Rangitikei River in the Oroua sub-union, the Manawatu union is stating that these players are not entitled to play for Rangitikei. They should play for Manawatu. However, these players themselves have intimated that if they cannot continue to play in Rangitikei, they wilt give the game up. They maintain their interests are in Ohingaiti and moreover players from the same area, have been participating in Rangitikei football for the past 15 years. On May 12 a conference between the Wanganui and Manawatu Unions and the Rangitikei and Oroua subunions was held, but no finality was reached. A further conference will take place in Paltaerston North, tonight.
