Two Naval Officers Arrive In Dominion
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA). By the Akaroa from Britain today there arrived two naval officers, one for service in anti-submarine work, and the other, wearing the uniform of the Fleet Air Arm, to be demobilised. First is Lieut. Commander Hearn, of the Royal Navy, who is or loan to the Royal New Zealand Navy for three years. He was on destroyers in the Mediterranean during the war am' specialises in defence against undersea attack. This is work, it is said, with which the frigates attached to the R.N.Z.N. are concrned. The other officer is L'eut. J. McD. Howden, of Takapuna. Auckland, who, after being at the war for four years, returned to New Zealand in 1945 for six months before going overseas again a second time for the purpose of taking up a permanent commission in the Fleet Air Arm. Illhealth resulting from hi: service in Ceylon during the war caused, him. he said, to be invalided out. His future plans are indefinite.
