Death Of Mr. S. E. Lloyd; Formerly Well-Known Resident Of Fordell
The death occurred last week of Mr. Sampel Edgar Lloyd, who for many years was a well-known resident of Fordell where he lived till his retirement about two yews ago. At the time of his death Mr. Lloyd resided in Jellicoe Street, Wanganui East. Mr. Lloyd was born in 1866 at West Bromwich in County Stafford, and after serving his apprenticeship in the grocery and drapery trade in London came to New Zealand 40 years ago. He settled in Palmerston North and in 1912 married Miss May Toms. While in Palmerston North, Mr. Lloyd was on the staff of W. F. Durwood and Co. (now the P.D.G.) and C. M. Ross and Co. In 1922 he purchased a general store at Fordell xid lived there till his retirement about two years ago. During Mr. Lloyd's 25 years in Fordell he made many friends. His knowledge of book-keeping and willingness to help, were taken full advantage of by many people, and also by the various societies, whose books he was always willing to audit. He was noted for the thoroughness of his work.
Mr Lloyd also served for some years on the Fordell School Committee and was a keen student of world affairs. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter, and four grandchildren. Three sisters and a brother live in England.
Two sons, Eric and Raymond Lloyd, were killed on active service overseas with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. , The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. T. Speer, ot Fordell, and the Rev. A. S. Archibald, Wanganui East. The pallbearers were Messrs C. Flyger, W. Hunt (of Ross and Glendining), T. O’Leary and L. Bruce.
