Faster Railcar Trip To Wellington Under New Schedule

An amended schedule for the Wel-lington-New Plymouth railcar service, which will reduce the travelling time from New Plymouth to Wellington by 22 minutes and the return journey by five minutes, will come into effect, on June 12.

The reduction time has been made possible by the provision of additional facilities, including signalling apparatus at Kakaramea, and the alteration of other train schedules. Under the new timetable, the southbound railcar will leave New Plymouth at 3.20 p.m., three minutes later than at present, and will arrive at Aramoho at 6.35 p.m. and Marton at 7.30 p.m. The schedule arrival at Wellington is timed for 10.25 a.m., instead of the present 10.47 p.m. The northbound railcar will leave Wellington at 5.13 p.m. as at present, and will follow the existing schedule to Aramoho, where it will depart at 9.15 p.m., which is a minute earlier than usual. It will arrive at New Plymouth at 12.30 a.m., instead of 12.35 a.m. as at present.
