Waverley Institute

Glorious sunshine favoured the meeting of the Waverley Woman's Institute held on May 24. A very good attendance of members were present, and five new members, Mesdames Lee, Johnstone, Edwards, Urlich and Miss B. Barnett, were welcomed by the president, also one visitor was present. A minute’s silence was observed for the president, Mrs. Stinson, in her recent sad bereavement. Two members received gifts from the birthday box while Mrs. O. Smith was the lucky winner I of the wandering shilling, and a com- ; petition held during the afternoon. The parcel committee, Mrs. Milne and ! Atkinson reported they had packed ■ and forwarded a food parcel to EngI land. Mrs. G. Milne gave a full re- | port of the annual council meeting held at Wanganui. The hostesses Mrs. Quayle, senr., Mrs. W. Quayle, I and Mrs. O'Leary, served a delicious afternoon tea, and a social half-hour was held. Members responded well to the roll call, "What My Husband Thinks of Tea on Institute Night." Some very amusing answers were given. Competitions for the day were capabiy judged by Mrs. Slater and Smitn. Best chrysanthemum, Mrs. Aiken 1. Copeland 2, Mrs. Milne 3; 11b jar berries and foliage, Mrs. Lupton 1, Miss D.
