Two Retiring Members Of Gas Department Staff Farewelled

Tributes to the long service given to the Municipal Gas Department by Messrs. W. McElwain (27 years) and C. Scott (39 years) who are retiring, were paid by the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., at a staff gathering on Friday night. On behalf of the staff, the chairman of the Gas Committee, Cr. R. P. Andrews, presented each man with an inscribed wristlet watch. Other speakers were the engineer and manager, Mr. J. W. Atkinson, Mr. W. J. Healey, of tlie sales department, and Mr. L. C. Poad, of the office staff. The Mayor spoke of his long association with both Messrs. McElwain and Scott, and expressed the thanks of the Wanganui City Council for the services they had given the department. An apology was read from the former engineer and manager, Mr. W. J. Stone, who was unable to be present id. the gathering. He thanked both retiring members for their loyalty and support during their association with the department.
