Prisoner From Mount Crawford Jail Escapes
WELLINGTON, Last Night (P.A.) —A prisoner from Mt. Crawford jail escaped from a prison working party in the middle of the afternoon. A large police party carried out searches for the escaped man and took measures aimed at preventing his escane from the Miramar Peninsula. The escaped man is Richard Stanley Wratten, described by the police as 27 years of age, sft 7in. in height, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, and tatoo marks on his right forearm. At the time of his escape he was wearing prison clothing comprising white moleskin trousers, a grey jacket, and possibly an army grey long-sleeved pullover Wratten was serving a recently imposed sentence for forgery of cheques.
