men were standing about in indeterminate places.”

Tne Manchester Guardian: “Generally the New Zealanders fielded well. They are alert, move quickly into a ball and pick it up cleanly. Their throwing to the wicket, however, often was deplorable and it was surprising they did not give away more runs than they did from overthrows. Only prudence and practice will put this right.”

THE THIRD DAY’S PLAY BRADFORD, May 3 (Recd. 12.52 am) —Yorkshire got a quick wicket after 25 minutes on the final day against New Zealand. When Hadlee pjayed forward to Coxon the oall hit his pads and he was out leg before. A few minutes befrie he had been dropped at cover by Wilson off Yardley, who bowled a single over to enable Aspinall and Coxon to change ends. It was a difficult chance. Wilson had to dive forward to a falling ball He got his hands to it, but when his elbows jarred on the ground it jumped out of his fingers. Donnelly joined Wallace, who was batting confidently. Wallace hit the fourth ball of the day, a full toss from Aspinall, to the off and just wide of the wicket, for four. He took another four off Aspinall with a similar shot, and three off Coxon, who a few minutes later, appealed unsuccessfully for leg before.

There now is a tension about this match which can be felt, and it was not lessened in any way when Wallace and Dannelly ran a quick sing’e and the latter reached his crease just in time. Aspinall was swinging usefully. The batsmen occasionally were raising puffs of dust from a bone dry wicket.

Fall of wickets: one for 4. two for 4, three for 30.
