First Two English Classics Decided

LONDON- April 30—The Two Thousand Guineas, the rirst of the English classic races, run at Newmarket on Wednesday, resulted in a narrow victory lor Nimbus, who defeated Abernont by a short head. Result:— Two Thousand Guineas (sweepstakes of £lOO each, w.th £2lOO added; colts, 9.0; lilies- 8 9; 1 mile).—Nimbus (Mrs M. The One Thousand Guineas, for three-year-old fillies, run at Newmarket over one mile, resulted: Muisdora 1- Unknown Quantity 2. Solarmyth 3. Won by one and a-half lengths; two lengths. Time, 1.49. The winner was ridden by the Australian jockey Edgar Britt. The King's filly, Avila, was fourth. For the first time in a classic race in Britain, judges used the camera to decide the Newmarket Two Thousand Guineas, in which the favourite, Abernant. with the champion jockey Gorden Richards up, was beaten by the 10 to 1 chance Nimbus, ridden by E. C. Elliott. Nimbus was bought for 5000gns as a yearling. Abernant just failed to stay the distance. Most of the crowd expected the decision to be a deadheat, but the camera showed that Nimbus had won by a short head.
