China Is Likely To Remain China; Modified Form Of Communism
NEW YORK, April 30 (Rec. 6 p.m.)—Washington officials expect only a watered down form of Communism in China if the Reds engulf the entire country, and think the Kremlin may not be able to exercise much control over the Chinese Communist Government, according to the Washington correspondent of the New York “Times.” A modifield form of Communism, he says, would result from the vastness of the country, from the nationalism of many Communist leaders themselves, from the strong individualism of the Chinese people, and from the fact that the new regime would have to use the services of the Nationalist Government’s technical experts. He says: “Many Washington officials believe Russia will move slowly irt seeking to exercise a controlling hand in China. The long view held by Washington experts is that China will remain China.’*
