Taihape Borough Council Rejects Scheme To Graze Its Own Sheep
TAIHAPE, Last Night (OC).—A motion moved by Cr. A. Gregory, that the Taihape Borough Council go in for sheep farming and graze its own sheep on its own sections was rejected at a special meeting of the Council. Cr. Gregory estimated that a gross profit of £2 per sheep would result and he thought that the Council would make a lot more money grazing its own sheep than by letting the sections as at present. The Mayor: I am very much against the Council going in lor sheep fanning. I don’t think it will be a financial success. 1 have spoken to several farmers and they say we are mad to go in for the scheme We thougjit we were going to make money out of potatoes once but we lost, money instead. Cr. Ashenden: We have 36 acres of land which will carry 75 sheep. It is a doubt ful proposition. On being put to the meeting the motion was lost. Crs.
