Miscellaneous Cssps Heard The monthly sitting cf the Taihape i Magistrate’s Court was held before ! Mr A. Coleman. S.M.. on Thursday. Sergeant Griffith appeared for the ' police. I James Irvine, cook, James Fulton, porter, and Edward Arkle, cook, were i charged with deserting from the Doi Pinion Monarch and were remanded to appear at Wellington. Edwaru O’Sullivan, labourer, Waimate, was fined £3 and costs 10 s for possessing liquor in a railway carriage at Taihape on Ap’kT* . Constable R. Cross said that as a result of a complaint received he went to the Taihape railway station and found defendant in a carriage with part of a bottle of port wine in his possession. The case arose out of a collision between cars driven by A Caulcutt, of Taihape, and the defendant, outside the recreation ground gates. After hearing evidence by Caulcutt, Constable Ingram, Constable Campbell. L. Chapman (an eye-witness) and the defendant Hill, the magistrate said that he would give Hill the benefit of the doubt and dismissed the information. COLLISION CASES The police brought an action against Frederick Wallis, farmer. Goldfinch Street, Taihape, on a charge of failing to keep as far as practicable to' the left of the roadway on January 21 on the Taihape-Naiuer road. The case was a sequel ;o a collision between a motor truck driven bv Walli and a car driven bv D J. Webb, of Hastings, near Cottrell’s. Defendant was fined £1 (costs 10s) and ordered to pay witnesses’ expenses £7 Bs. Henry L. Carpenter farm hand, Omatane. was charged with having intoxicating liquor unaer his control in the vicinity of the Uliku dance hall. Defendant- who was represented by Mr R. C.
