Isador Goodman’s Recital At Girls" College
Introduced to the assembled pupils by Janice Haggie, a Form VI pupil of the Girls’ College, Mr. Isador Goodman played for over an hour before a delighted audience of 550 school girls in the College Assembly Hall. His programme included three Bach Chorales, a Scarlatti, a Debussy and a Chopin group together with a group from
i modem Russian composers. • Very informally, and entertainingly, I Mr. Goodman spoke to the girls, guidiing their listening, and illuminating leach item for them in such a way as to ! ensure that even the youngest will al- ' ways remember his words. After the recital Eva Rosenbaum, on behalf of Girls’ College, presented Mr. Goodman with a cream scarf on which his initials had been beautifully embroidered by a senior pupil. After Mr. Goodman had spoken to 4 ho school, the girls massed on the drive to wave him goodbye. The ovaiion showed him in no uncertain terms that his music, his generosity and his quiet charm of manner, had captured the young audience.
