SPRINGBOK TEAM OF AFRICANS WANTS IO PLAY THE MAORIS
WELLINIGTON, Last Night (PA) —The possibility ot a Spr.ngbok Rugby team, consisting solely of Africans, playing matches aga.nst Maoris, either in South Africa or New Zealand in II),>1, j s mentioned in a letter received by the New Zealand Rugby Union from the South African Bantu Rugby Foolball Board. The letter was read at tonight’s meeting of the management committee of tile New Zealand Rugby Union and was referred to the council. The letter states that the board was founded to promote Rugby among the African people of South Africa and that the object had been attained very successfully. The board wishes to sponsor an African Springbok team to tour lhe principal Rugby playing centres in 1950. If this experiment proved fruitful the board would like to negotiate with the Maoris for matches in the following year.
