Fire Protection At Outdoor Entertainments Held In Large Tents
The question of fire protection measures at public entertainments held under canvas was raised at a meet : ng of the Wnaganui Fire Board yesterday, when Mr. J. F. Broad asked what safety precautions were taken by large shows, such as a circus, which packed big crowds into a tent. Picture theatres, he said, were required to comply strictly with the regulations, and to ensure that every safety measure was observed. The deputy-superintendent, Mr. W. Brown, said that when a show visit xl Wanganui recently, the City Council's inspector would not issue a licence till the company agreed to pay for the services of two firemen who would be in attendance at each performance. The company had agreed to this and hrfd provided lire exits. Every precaution was taken in the event of an outbreak of lire. The chairman, Mr. G. P. Hawkins: The City Council inspectors are very alive to the position. The deputy-superintendent: Smoking is prohibited in these tents and notices prominently displayed to that effect. Mr. W. M. Falconer said that as the City Council issued licences for these performances it could insist j that everything was in order.
