Mrs. R. Goodey, Keith Street, returned on Tuesday from a holidayspent at Rotorua. Mrs. H. Tipper was re-elected to the office of president of the Wanganui District Federation of Women's Institutes at the annual council meeting held yesterday. , Miss Patricia Taiboys, of Wanganui, was a recent caller at New Zealand House in London, reports New Zealand News. Mr. and Mrs. Farquarson, of Hastings, have been visiting Wanganui. Miss Pat Brownlie, of Napier, was the guest last week-end of Mrs. E. J. Kirk, Selwyn Street. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gardiner, of North Auckland, have been the guests of Mrs. W. Curtis, Selwyn Street. Mrs. Kennedy, who has been visiting Wanganui for the Curtis-Fisher wedding, leaves today for her home in Christchurch. It was reported at the annual council meeting of the Wanganui Federation of Women's Institutes that as well as parcels sent, Aid to Britain has benefited also by llllbs. of soap, 96 cakes of soap, while 10501bs. and one carton of cooking fat has been sent by the same agency. 438 garments, 15 pairs of boots and shoes, 3 parcels of mixed goods, 3 of clothing and 5 padded and quilted suits for Chinese children sent to C.0.R.5.0.

Miss Mary Jane Beamer, who has arrived in Wellington to take up the position of secretary to Colonel F. E. Cookson, military attache on the staff of the United States Embassy, comes from Virginia, Colonel Hugh C. Parker, who is soon to succeed Colonel Cookson as military attache, is also a Virginian. Before coming to New Zealand Miss Beamer was stationed in Mexico and later in Honduras. Jumble Sale. A jumble sale will be held in the Trinity Methodist Church Sunday Schoolroom tomorrow, April 29, from 10.30 to 12 noon. There will be produce, fancy work and old clothes stalls. “Flag 500” Evening. At the fortnightly “Flag 500” evening held by the National Party in the Fire Brigade Hall, Gonville, the winners were:—Mesdames Morrison, Hunwick and Cantwell. Competition winner was Mrs. Roydhouse. There were about 40 players taking part. Shop Day. Tomorrow in the 2nd. N.Z.E.F. Rooms, the Y.W.C.A. will hold a shop day when stalls will include flowers, sweets and used clothing. The rooms will be open from 10.30 a.m.
