Treneere Fancied In Easter Handicap At Tauherenikau

Though the Wairarapa Racing Club’s meeting today and Monday clashes with the Feilding fixture, just as the New Year meeting at Tauherenikau has to compete with Marton and Hastings, the fields carded for today are strong enough to attract followers of racing from as far afield as Hawke’s Bay, while there will be a strong contingent from Wellington. Principal event is the Easter Handicap, headed by Barrage, who is also engaged in the Feilding Cup. It is likely that the latter event will be his mission. Royal Victor generally runs a good race at Tauherenikau, though his recent form has not been encouraging. Treneere, Veine d'Or, Leyma, Fairhome, Reveller and Tranquil Gold have good credentials. The open sprint is the Martinborough Handicap, with Fleetwood as topweight. The Foxbridge gelding was not. disgraced at Awapdhi, where he finished sixth in the Johnston Memorial. Zealander, Reprive, Luminous Knight, Lord Luck, Tranquil Gold, Vane Master and Blue Skimmers are all capable of running out a smart six furlongs, and if Cot-Case is found in generous mood he is handily placed. The form shown by the juveniles so fa r this season suggests that Gleam, a winner at Levin last Saturday, should again account for the opposition, but there will be some prooiems for backers with the hack events. The following may be fancied in their respective engagements: Tuhitarata Highweight. • —Supreme Shepherd, Mine Host, Dandy Ninth. Maiden Plate.—Pervin, Autograph, Chief Officer.
