SCOUTING. TURAKINA, April 13 (OC).—The bottle drive held on Saturday last proved a huge success, in the vicinity of 100 dozen bottles being collected, the proceeds of which will help considerably to swell the Scout Funds. The troop is indebted to Mr. Papps, who loaned his truck for the occasion. On Anzac Day the Cubs and Scouts will parade with members of the R.S.A. at the Valley Road corner at 10 a.m. Committee members are reminded of the meeting to be held on Wednesday, April 20. DEFENCE RULE CLUB A record number of fourteen riflemen lined up for the first of a series of shoots for a trophy donated by Mr. H. Stewart and some very good scores were recorded. GOLF A medal round played on the Whangachu Golf Clubs links at the weekend resulted in a win for A. Duncan with a nett 66. Next weekend a Bogey match will be played. FOOTBALL A team from Shannon visited Turakina on Saturday and beat the home team 10 - 9 in an evenly contested game. Tries for the visitors were ( scored by J. Robertson and F. Peach both being converted by Myers, while Turakina’s points came from three unconverted tries, two by S. Thompson and one by M. Carmichael. The local backs have a bad habit of hanging on to the ball too long and it they hope to have any success in the forthcoming competition this will have to be remedied. This was particularly noticeable on Saturday when they were caught in possession on a number of occasions. PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. W. Stent have returned from a three weeks holiday in the Rotorua district.
