CONCERN AT MISUSE OF BOOKS IN CITY REFERENCE LIBRARY
Concern at the mutilation of books in the reference section at the city library the cutting out of illustrations W&s expressed by the dhief librarian (Miss A. M. Blackett) in a report to the Wanganui City Council. “One feels that it is likely to be the work of school boys and girls who are given projects to do at home with instructions to present illustrations with the subject matter,” stated the report. “Some time ago,” stated Miss Blackett, “I had suspicions about full-page illustrations cut from books and wrote to the Headmasters’ Association, but without definite proof, nothing could be done about it. Recently standard works have been mutilated. This has .been a matter of comment by adults using the books. “It would be a pity to bar senool children from using this department, where so much useful information is available for them, but some action is indicated.”
