It was decided that the season open on April 30 (a week later than last year because of the Easter and Anzac week-ends).

Teams in the various grades will be Senior, Utiku-Old Boys, Huia, Pirates, Mangaweka: junior- Huia, Navy, Utiku-Old Boys, Pirates; third grade, High School, Pirates, Utiku-Old Boys, Huia.

Mr Dean reported at length on the past season. He concluded with a word of thanks to the secretary, treasurer, committee and other officers and the referees, and especially praised the work of the secretary. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr G. W. Batley; president, Mr R. Dean; secretary, Mr J. R. Kilgour; treasurer, Mr P. Cardno; auditor. Mr G. W. Ryan; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Webb, W. Thurston, L. Mahoney; management committee, Messrs W. Pine, R. Jones, A. Young; selectors. Messrs W. Pine, W. Thurston, E. A. Brown (senior), A. Young, H. Frew, R. Jones (junior). D. Taylor, E. Henham, Des. George; delegates to Wanganui Rugby Union annual meetirig, Messrs Dean, Webb and Kilgour; delegates to the Wanganui Union management committee, Messrs J. R. Kilgour and J. Webb; hon. surgeons, Drs. H. M. Hay, D. L. Sinclair and A. N. White. To a question, it was stated that the sub-union boundaries were the Ohingaiti metal pit in the south and the Rangitikei county boundary in the north. All clubs are to supply a list of registered players before the first competition game. Mr McNicol moved as a recommendation to the management committee that the representative programme b’e reduced. The Oroua. Rangitikei and Ruapehu games could be annual instead of home-and-home. It was stated that it was Taihape’s turn to provide the Wanganui Union president. Mr Dean was nominated, but declined, and on his motion Mr Webb’s name is to be forwarded. Mr F. R. O’Keeffe, secretary of the disbanded Utiku Rugby Club, notified the amalgamation of that club with Old Boys’ Club. The club proposed to enter senior, junior and third grade teams. Nineteen passes (one more than last season) are to be issued to each team. It was a recommendation to the management committee that the issue of season tickets be considered. Two remits proposed by the Huia Club were passed. They were: “That playing should not debar a person from being a member of the management committee of the sub-union, provided that he did not play more than three games in a season.” and “That a player be granted not more than one transfer from any local club to any other local club in th'e one season.” King Country Match Instancing the statement in Taihape two years ago by a member of the Wanganui Union management committee that he would see that the Wanganui-King Country game was always played in Taihape, a promise that was never honoured, Mr McNicol said perhaps this was because Taihape delegates could not attend all meetings. Perhaps it would be better to have one resident delegate. Wanganui’s specious reason for taking the game to Wanganui last season was that they wanted the gate because of the heavy expenses of the season, but their published balance-sheet indicated that they had not needed it. Mr McNicol suggested Mr S. C. Hintz, former sub-union treasurer, but Mr F. Ward commented that a delegate would have to be a member of a union. Th'e matter was then dropped. PERSONAL At. the Rugby Sub-union annual meeting those present stood in silence in respect to the memory of the late Mr Harry Chase, whom the chairman referred to as a Rugby stalwart, administrator and prominent former player. Mr F. White, who now resides at Auckland and was for many years in business in Taihape, has been renewing acquaintances with friends in the town. An ex-councillor, he was present at the meeting of the Taihape Borough Council, and was welcomed by the Mayor (Mr Loader). CARE OF BABIES Tiie report of Sister Anderson to the March meeting of the Taihape branch of the Plunket Society showed that babies under supervision totalled 270 and visits to the rooms concerned 182 babies, 200 adults and 22 pre-school children. Visits Io homes concerned 126 babies and one pre-school child. Car mileage for February was 390.
