Mangaweka Women’s Institute

There was a good attendance at the February meeting of the Mangaweka Women's Institute presided over by Mrs. Barrell. Apologies were received from Mesdames Dickson and Billinghurst. The motto was given by Mrs. Barrell. Owing to weather- conditions it was not possible to have our usual carol singing for funds for overseas food parcels, so each member agreed to provide food items for the parcels. It was decided that each member attending the annual meeting at Taihape would take something for the trading table. The treasurer, Mrs. Hammond, read the financial statement which was very satisfactory. It was decided to take steps to form a handcraft circle. Competition winners were:—Best bloom: Mrs. Pairman, 1; Mrs. Dickson, 2; Mrs. Brown, 3. Bowl of dahlias: Mrs. Gower, 1; Miss Sweet, 2; Mrs. Pairman, 3. Vegetable: Mrs. Pairman, 1; Mrs. Dickson, 2. Xmas cake: Mrs. Gower, 1.
