Belief That Eva Peron Is Being Sent On A “Vacation”
NEW YORK, Feb 22 (Reed 6 pm). —The Argentine Army has lifted its threat to turn President Peron out of office, but the possibility remain! that Peron’s actress wife, Eva, may be forced from public life says the “Daily News” Buenos Aires correspondent.
The War Minister, General Humberto Sosa Molina, today gave Peron his personal guarantee that the Army had no intention of throwing him out. The correspondent says it was rumoured widely today that Eva Peron was negotiating to charter a plane to Pernambuco, Brazil, and possibly beyond. It is generally credited that the army gave Peron the choice of sending Eva on a European “vacation,” or issuing a joint formal statement announcing her retirement from public life, where her social welfare programme is proving as costly as an attempt to meet labour’s steady demands for pay increases.
