Arthur Gilligan To Broadcast The N.Z. Cricket Tests

Mr Arthur Gilligan, a brother of Mr F. W. Gilligan, headmaster of the Wanganui Collegiate School, has been invited by the 8.8. C. to broadcast tile test match series between the New Zealand team and England. The test dates are: Jun c 11, v. England at Leeds; June‘2s, v. England at Lords; July 23, v. England at Manchester; August 13. v. England at the Oval. Arthur Gilligan broadcast the test matches in th e England-Australia series last summer for the Australian Broadcasting Commission, and also the test series held prior to that in Australia. Leaving Dulwich College, where he was captain of the college eleven, he served in the First War in the Lancashire Fusiliers- At the end of the war h e resumed his studies at Cambridge University. Here he distinguished himself at Rugby, cricket, athletics, golf and hockey. He was awarded his cricket Blue as a fast bowler. He led Englands’ team in Australia in 1924-25 and later took an M.C.C. team to India.

His most distinguished performance was in 1924, when, iiy the first test between England and South Africa, he and Maurice Tate dismissed South Africa for 30, Arthur Gilligan’s analysis being six wickets for seven runs and Tate four for 12. Another brother. Harold Gilligan, captained an M.C.C. team to New Zealand in 1929-30, and is the New Zealand Cricket Council representative in England.
