Woman’s World

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. Gwen Hunt and son Kelvin, Hastings, were visitors to Wanganui for the Spooner—Gibson wedding. Mrs. A. R. Donaldson, Sarjeant Street, was a week-end visitor to Wellington. Wanganui Girls’ College Inaugurates Special Nursing Class What promises to be a valuable innovation this year at the Wanganui Girls’ College is a nursing course in Form VI for girls who have passed their School Certificate, and wish to train later, as nurses. The matron of the Public Hospital (Miss Buckingham) has been most cooperative and helpful, with the result that 11 college pupils are taking the course under the direction of a Tutor Sister. The first experiment in this direction took place last year in Wellington, when nine pupils from post-prim-ary schools embarked upon it. The girls attend hospital two afternoons a week, where hey have practical work and also lectures in human biology and anatomy. If their examination in October and their general reports are satisfactory, the girls may sit for their first nurses’ examination three months after their training begins, instead of nine months, thus shortening their training period by six months. All except two of the Wanganui College girls are also candidates for the University Entrance Examination, and the other two for the endorsed school certificate, so the year promises to be a very full and a very well worthwhile one fo r them.
