PRAISE FOR WANGANUI COMPOSER, D. LILBURN, BY LONDON PRESS
Feb. 15 (Recd. 6pm) —A set of five “diversion?,' composed for ,the Boyd Neel Orchestra during its tour of New Zealand in 1947 by David Lilburn (Wanganui), was played by the orchestra at a concert in Chelsea, London. “The Times” commented: “The suite lives up to its name of diversions. It bubbles with spontaneous ideas and is written with resourcefulness. Boyd Neel certainly came back from New Zealand richer by an attractive addition to his repertoire.” The “Daily Telegraph” remarked: “The music was slight but deftly written, with sparkling rhythmical invention in the quick movements.”
