Yachts Strike Trouble In Auckland Regatta

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA)—A strong south-easterly wind, rough seas and sudden squalls made yachting conditions difficult on Auckland Harbour on Saturday and many of the boats which ventured out capsized. The crews finished up in the water at many points, and unti l she was holed in a collision with the vehicular ferry, the motor launch Lady Sandra was fully occupied with rescue work.

Of the 54 boats which started in the regatta, only 26 finished. Several of the other 28 capsized, broke their gear, or chose to withdrak. Rescue launches were kept busy before the races began as some of the yachts capsized while going out to the start
