U.S. Warns The Jews Privately; Britain Does It Publicly
WASHINGTON, . an. 16 (Recti. 9.15 pm) • —The White House refused today to comment on a report that President Truman haZ personally expressed his concern to Israel “of the consequences of allowing its defence to become an aggressive quest for more territory.* * The report, which was published in the “Christian Science Monitor,” said President Truman had conveyed his views in a personal message to the Prime Minister of Israel (Mr David Ben Gurion). The “Monitor’s” Washington correspondent had written that the differences between Britain and the United States over Israeli’s incursions into Egypt concerned diplomatic tactics, not a problem itself. The, correspondent said Washington was delivering virtually the same warning to the Israeli leaders privately that London was delivering publicly.
