Occupants Of Dinghy Missing In Auckland

AUCKLAND. Last Night (PA).— Five persons who set out in a 16-foot sailing dinghy on Saturday morning for a visit to Brown’s Island failed to return, and searches made today were unsuccessful. The missing are Mr. George Marsh, of Tamaki, Mrs. Marsh, their young son, Miss Polly Tama and Oliver Torn. The dinghy, which was a homemade craft, was lent to Mr. Marsh by his brother-in-law, Mr. T. Adams, and the party left Point England Beach at 9 o’clock on Saturday morning. It was expected to return during the afternoon, but had not done so at nightfall. A strong southerly wind was blowing during the day and the sea was rough. Mr. Adams conducted a search in another boat this morning but could And no trace of the missine dinghy; or its occupants. He notified the police and the police launch Lady Shirley took up the search. It patrolled the area around Brown’s Island until tonight but without success. The search will be continued tomorrow. •
