Mr. J. Darbyshire, the first beneficiary under the Lord Bledisloe Memorial Trust Fund, arrived in Wellington with his wife aboard the Atlantis from England yesterday. The fund was established by Lord Bledisloe to help servicemen and women to migrate to New Zealand, and is open to those living near his country home, Lydney, Gloucestershire MrDerbyshire, who received a forester’s diploma at the Parkend Forestry School, Lydney, will be employed in New Zealand by the State Forest Service.— (P.A.)

Mr. J. Hughes, of Morrinsville, has taken up his Department of Health appointment as district inspector of health resident at New Plymouth in place of Mr. W. F. de Roo, recently transferred to Wellington. So far there has been no announcement of the appointment of a resident Medical Officer of Health for Taranaki to fill the vacancy caused by the departure of Dr. E. W. Kinsey for England, the present acting-officer being Dr. T. D. Lonie, of Palmerston North, who a ! so is medical officer of health for Wanganui.

Miss Shirley Strickland, Western Australian Olympic Games representative, will definitely be a member of the Australian athletic team to visit New Zealand next month, according to an announcement yesterday by Mr. H. I. Austad, chairman of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. In the Olympic Games she gained third place in both the 100 and the 80 metres hurdles finals and was fourth in tlte 200 metres final.--(P.A.)
