EDUCATION

Sir,—l am pleased that Mr. L. A. Tackson now agrees with me that the standard of education in New Zealand is low. ...It is evident that the only difference between us is his ability to condone and find very lame excuses for the present, unsatisfactory state of affairs His lame excuses remind me of the tag, “Qui s’excuse s’accuse.” I have already quoted Mr. William Anderson, M.A., Professor of Philosophy Auckland University, who wrote the splendid pamphlet. “The Flight From Reason in New Zealand Education.” With the hope that Mr L. A. Tackson has read and digested this learned pamphlet I would now further refer him to an article by William F. Russell, Dean of Teachers’ College. Columbia University, recently published in America. He strongly supports my opinions and also those of Mr. L A. Tackson, now that he has been converted to the fact that the standard of education in New Zealand has reached a low level. —I am, etc., “SCRUTATOR.”
