Three Wanganui Teams In Taranaki Women’s Bowls Tournament
NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night (Special).—Eight lours, including all three entered from Wanganui, qualified for post-section play in the Taranaki women’s Bowling*Centre’s first annual open fours tournament at New Plymouth today, when play was continued in showery weather.
The four skipped by Mrs. Gillespie (New Plymouth) completed section play without loss. Two visitors, Mrs. Congreve (Wanganui, and Mrs. Martin (Hastings) had one loss only—at the hands of Mrs. Gillespie’s team. The other five qualifiers, each with four wins, were Mesdames Dennison (Wanganui), Dempster (Wanganui), Bottom ly (New Plymouth), Lister (Riverside) and Thomas (New Plymouth).
In the fifth round today Mrs. Bottomley beat Mrs Dennison, 25-21, Mrs Congreve beat Mrs. Roebuck 'New Plymouth), 28-16, and Mrs. C. Smith (New Plymouth) beat Mrs. Dempster 23-22.
In the sixth round all the Wanganui players won. Mrs. Dennison beat Mrs. Burkitt (New Plymouth), 19-12, Mrs. Congreve beat Mrs. Bottomly, 19-16, and Mrs. Dempster beat Mrs. Coxhead (Riverside), 26-5.
Mrs. Dempster will meet Mrs. Dennison in the first round of post-sec-tion play tomorrow and Mrs. Congreve will meet Mrs. Gillespie.
