N.Z.’s Consumption Of Butter A Head Highest In World

Even with the present rationing restrictions, New Zealand has probably the highest per capita butter consumption in the world, according to figures published by the Census and Statistics Department. Th'e figures for consumption of butter, taken from information published bv the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, are as follows:

The department says that in considering Now Zealand’s relatively hip.h consumption it is relevant to mention that the use of margarine as a spread, common in some countries, is unknown in Now Zealand. New Zealand’s reduction of about 25 per cent, below the pre-war level is greater than that of most other countries shown. New Zealanders, however, are not such great cheese-eaters as some other peoples. The figures of cheese consumption are:—
