Kyrat Paid Quarter Of Century At Te Aroha

AUCKLAND, Last Night (Special —lmproving upon his fourth at Hamilton a week earlier, Kyrat outstayed the opposition in the President's Handicap at Te Aroha on Saturday to reward his supporters with a dividend of near.y a quarter of a century. He was always well placed, trailing Artificer and Oklahoma down the back and then, with the home turn in sight, he ran up to and past the other pair to be in charge in the straight. It was a good race home, but Kyrai just had the edge on Artificer, who fought on very well to get within a neck of the winner. A length awa> was the little-fancied Earldale, who was just ahead of Oklahoma, Golden Secret, Boswell Hill, Huntore and Star Performer Artificer ducked under the tapes a fraction of a second before they rose and he gained an early advantage. Oklahoma joining him going out oi the straight. In the ruck at this stag'? were Huntore, Star Performer, Maid of Sherwood, Highfield, Go.d Dash and Censor, with Len Rosa last. When Kyrat took charge eventually he turned for home ahead -of Oklahoma. Artificer, Boswell Hill, Golden Secret. Silver Sam. Quick March, Earldale, Star Performer and Imperial, all of whom had chances. Kyrat is engaged in the Auckland Cup. The favourite, Quick March (the going was a bit too heavy for him in any case), was snowed in on the rails at the five furlongs. Imperial, who was trailing him, got the backwash from a bit of crowding which did not enhance the chances of either horse. Imperial did not put much dash into his fina' effort. A feature of the Electric Handicap was the forward showing made at his first appearance this term of Beaufighter, a brilliant two-year-old of ; last season. He did not. win, but he ! was in front at the distance and it ■ was only lack of a race that caused ' hime to tire and veer out, to be rele- | gated to fourth nlace.
