Wanganui Women Bowlers Taking Part In Taranaki Tourney
NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night (Special)—Fours from Wanganui and Hastings are among the 18 teams competing in the first annual tournament conducted bv the Taranaki Women’s Bowling Centre, which opened at Nev/ Plymouth today in perfect weather. Two rounds of section play were decided today. Post-section play is to begin on Thursday, and it is expected that the final will be played on Friday.
Three Wanganui fours are competing. Each gained one win today. A four comprising Mesdames Britton, Rush, Edwards and Congreve, lost to
Gatland’s (New Plymouth! four. 1431, but defeated C. Smith (New Plymouth), 8-15. A Wanganui four, comprising Mesdames Tinney, Joyce, Pluck and Dempster, beat Burkitt (New Plymouth), 31-15 and lost to Gillespie (New Plymouth), 27-19. Mesdames Johnson, Parnell. Verry and Dennison (Wanganui) lost to C. Smith. 25-22, but had a big win against Coxhead’s (Riverside) four, 42-9.
