Demonstrations Of Helicopter Rescues At Sydney Beaches
SYDNEY. Nov. 29. Thousands of people on Sydney beaches during the week-end were entertained by rescue demonstrations carried out by a Sikorsky helicopter belonging to the R.A.A.F., as part of a recruiting drive. The helicopter hovered at a few feet 'over the sea while a man was hoisted from a rubber dinghy into the cabin. Over-enthusiasm of the crowd almost caused disaster when the helicopter landed cn the promenade at Bondi. Surging masses- of people in beach attire prevented the occupants from disembarking and dodged the whirling rotor blades. The machine demonstrated its versatility by hovering over breakers and moving sideways and backwards.
