Modem Methods Of Agriculture For New Guinea
AUCKLAND. Last Night (PA).— The introduction of modern agricultural methods to natives of New Guinea is the job of Mr W. R. A. Parker, Agricultural Director attached to the territory of New Guineas Department of Agriculture, who arrived from Sydney this morning on leave. Mr. Parker said that a very extensive programme of native welfare development was being undertaken in New Guinea with the idea of raising the standard of living. His departmnt was introducing new crops and animals The department would send 50,000 pigs into New Guinea during next year for distribution among the natives. Great difficulty is experienced in overcoming centuries old customs, added Mr. Parker.
