Big 100-Mile Road Race To Be Held In S.I. Next Year

CHRISTCHURCH. Last Night (PA> —A 100-mile read race, the first of Its kind to be held in New Zealand, will be run over a circuit of th>a miles in the Waimairi County, live miles from the centre of Christchurch, on February 26 next year. The Canterbury Car Club has been granted permission by the Association of N.Z. Car Clubs to run the race on a national basis and it is proposed to hold it under governing races of the Grand Prix type overseas. Drivers in the race wi 1 have to be registered drivers holding competition licences issued 85' the association, and their cars will he subjected to a strict scrutiny Drivers from all New Zealand centres are expected to take part, and it. is hoped to have some Australian entrants later in the year Another national event, the New Zealand beach racing championship for cars will he held bv the Canterbu’y Car Club This will be run at the South Brighton beach on April 16.
