British Sailors Rescue Chinese Soldiers From Wreck
SINGAPORE, Nov 1 (Recd 8.30 pm). Twelve hundred Chinese soldiers have been rescued by the British destroyer Cossack after their vessel, the Ying Lung, was driven ashore near Keelone (Formosa). In very rough seas the British sailors threw lifelines and rescued the men on the distressed ship without a casualty. They battled against waves for several hours with many sailors up to the chin in water. The Ying Lung is in no immediate danger, but salvage work is likely to be a major operation.
