Grocers Not To Bear Loss On New Tea Prices

Wellington, Saturday (PA). —"Mr. Barker has again been barking up the wrong tree,” said U'e Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr. Nordmeyer) today, replying to the statement of the secretary of the Master Grocers’ Federation, Mr. R. M Barker, protesting against the retai. trade being asked to absorb the los: of 6d per lb. on existing stocks of tea. There was no intention of asking grocer to absorb the loss, said, tht Minister. This would obviously be unfair when they were previously required to make refunds to the public account when the price of tea was increased. A statement would be made bv the Rationing Controller on Monday concerning the procedure to be adopted by merchants, tea packers and retailers in applying for refunds on stocks of tea on hand.
