Forty-three horses were accepted for in the Melbourne Cup, to be run on Tuesday. If insufficient scratchings are received before 2 p.m. today a ballot will be conducted to reduce the Held to the safety limit of 35. The V.R.C. committee did not extend the time of acceptance for the Melbourne Cup until 8 p.m. tonight, when final acceptances are due for the minor events on Cup Day, and owners of acceptors for the Cup are due for the final forfeit of £65. No ballot, was conducted on Thursday as it is thought that Saturday’s racing may cause the scratching of some of the acceptors.
