Ngakoti Favourite For Rangitikei Cup At Bulls Today

The only race meeting in New Zealand today, except Whangarei, is the Rangitikei Racing Club’s fixture at Bulls, where the old-established Rangitikei Cup will be the feature event. It will carry a stake of £6OO, including a trophy valued at £5O, presented by Mr. w. McA. Duncan, of Wanganui. Mr. Duncan was a consistent supporter of the club until he hung up his colours a year or so ago, but the only Cup winner to caiVy his colours was Glenross, who was successful in 1926. A useful field will parade for the Rangitikei Cup today, and those with the best prospects appear to include Barrage, Kia Ora Katoa, Ngakoti, Night School, Bulaselle and Mister Beau. Best recent form is that of Ngakoti, winner of the Waverley Cup last Monday, and he is likely‘to be the elect of backers.

Fourteen are carded for the open sprint, the McKelvie Memorial, but three of them are also engaged in the Cup. If Night School, a winner at

Marton and Waipukurau, is reserved for this race he should be favourite, but there will also be good support for Sir Royal and Red Herring.

With 24 acceptors for the Sandon Hack Hurdles divisions will be required unless there are eigh,t scratchings, and divisions appear unavoidable in the Trial Stakes, in which there are 40 acceptors. The 21 acceptors of the Parewanui Hack Cup were divided into two fields to provide two separate races, the fifth and seventh on the programme. The course at Bulls is reported to be in good order and several improvements have been effected since the autumn meeting. The trc.ck should furnish excellent spring going. Betting is win-and-place and the following may be supported:— Sandon "Hack Hurdles. —First Division: Tribute, Result. Second Division: The Crofter, Incision. Trial Stakes.—First Division: Battle Signal, Opalescent. Second Division: Flying Colours, Belgrae. Ohakea Hack Handicap.—Jet Plane, Deseado, Blue Spec. Rangitikei Cup.—Ngakoti, Barrage, Kia Ora Katoa. Parewanui Hack Cup No. I.—Nullah, Foxtonian, Patui.ui. McKelvie Memorial. —Night School, Red Herring, Sir Royal. Parewanui Hack Cup No. 2.—Leyma, Lady Oratory, Lochrea. Farewell Hack Handicap.—Helenette. Robert Emmett, Jimmy Wilde.
